Armata are nevoie de ajutorul Serviciului Român de Informaţii pentru a elucida condiţiile în care s-a petrecut un incident aviatic în care a fost implicat un avion MIG 21 Lancer.
În după-amiaza zilei de 30 octombrie, la şase kilometri de Gherla, un avion MIG 21 Lancer efectua un zbor de antrenament. La un moment dat, avionul a suferit o avarie care a pus în pericol siguranţa pilotului. Acesta a reuşit să aterizeze cu bine.
Ancheta care a urmat nu a putut clarifica ce a lovit avionul. Iniţial s-a crezut că a fost o pasăre. Însă la 6500 de metri altitudine, acest lucru este exclus.
Avionul zbura cu peste 800 de kilometri pe oră. Viteza foarte mare a făcut ca imaginile surprinse la bordul avionului să fie neclare. Se observă patru obiecte neidentificabile.

October 30th, In Romania, a MIG 21 Lancer was hit by an "Unidentified Flying Object". The Romanian Military went on national TV to report that at an altitude of 6300meters/ 3.91464 Miles and at a speed of 800 km/h - 500mph - their airplane was hit by an object which was later ruled out to be a bird due to the fact that at this altitude it is highly unlikely that a bird would cause such damage to a military plane.
The aircraft security and onboard instruments including a camera, captured 4 Unidentified Flying Objects which could not be made out on video due to the speed and due to the impact. The Pilot announced that he and 1 other airplane was doing a routine exercise 6km away from Gherla, Romania when this object along with 4 others, (only one hit the plane) came from under the clouds and hit his airplane. He then, due to the impact and from the video you will see, was forced to aboard mission and land immediately due to his wing and cabin damage.

On October 30, 2007, a MIG 21 Lancer fighter was hit by an "Unidentified Flying Object." The Romanian Military went on national TV to report that at an altitude of 6300 meters or 3.91464 miles altitude and at a speed of 800 km/ – 500 mph - their airplane was hit by an object which was later ruled out to be a bird due to the fact that at this altitude it is highly unlikely that a bird would cause such damage to a military plane. The video shows the damage to the wing of the MIG 21 aircraft. This is a significant report in Romanian. If anyone can translate the video I would appreciate it. BUCHAREST, Romania, June 6 (UPI) -- The Romanian Defense Ministry has confirmed that a fighter plane was struck by four unidentified flying objects and released a video of the incident.
The ministry said the MIG 21 Lancer fighter plane was struck by the objects during an Oct. 31, 2007, check flight but was able to land safely, Hotnews.ro reported Friday.
Lt. Col. Nicolae Grigorie said a video recorded by cameras onboard the plane depicts "two solid bodies, which are not translucid."
Grigorie said authorities are working to determine what the objects could have been.
"They couldn't be birds because there are no birds in Europe able to fly so high. And they couldn't be ice bodies because it was a clear sky -- neither could they be pieces of another plane or a meteor," he said.
He said the government has ruled out rocket launches and ground artillery fires as causes of the incident.

Defence chiefs in Romania are investigating claims that one of their MIG 21 fighter planes was struck by an Unidentified Flying Object.
The claims came from a leaked report revealed that the cockpit of the jet was shattered in the collision.
Romanian defence ministry officials have ruled out a collision with "normal" objects such as birds and meteorites.
In the report, Chief investigator Commander Nicolae Grigorie said: 'We can definitely say what this thing was not, but we cannot say what it was.'
The incident was recorded on an in-flight camera as the plane was flying above Transylvania.
Pilot Marin Mitrica was injured slightly but managed to land the plane after the blow.
The collision is still a mystery to defence chiefs, and the investigation has been passed on to the Security Committee of European Air Forces.

Officials from the Romanian Defense Military confirmed that one of their MiG-21 Lancer fighter planes was struck by four Unidentified Flying Objects on October 31, 2007, which shattered the plane's cockpit. The military also released a video captured by the plane's on-board camera as it was flying above Transylvania.
The recording shows solid bodies, which authorities are working to determine the identity of. Officials have already been able to determine the bodies were not birds or pieces of another plane, a meteorite or ice. Rocket launches and ground artillery shots were also ruled out as possible explanations for the incident.
The pilot, Marin Mitrica, was injured slightly but managed to safely land the plane. The investigation was passed to the Security Committee of European Air Forces.
A similar incident happened in the United States in 1948. Captain Mantell, of the Kentucky Air National Guard, was sent to intercept a UFO that was in US airspace, and allegedly, he was shot down by the UFO. Further investigations revealed that he was unfamiliar with the F-51 (P-51 fighter plane of World War II era).

28 June 1968 - A UFO flew over Bucharest, Romania at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, stopped and hovered for several seconds, and then continued on its way.
